Valentine's Day Chocolate Hearts With Tart Cherries | These homemade chocolate hearts with tart cherries are a guilt-free and nutritious treat to show anyone some extra love this Valentine's Day -- no fancy chocolatier skills required! | WildernessFamilyNaturals.com

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, markets are flooding with chocolates in all shapes and sizes.

Chocolate has been prized in many cultures for thousands of years. The ancient Mesoamericans even considered cacao a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Chocolatiers popped up across Europe and America, as chocolate made its way around this globe. Suddenly, chocolate went from food to art form. Not only do we eat our chocolate, we revel in the skill and artistry it affords us.

Happily, the artful skill of a chocolatier is not required to enjoy healthy, homemade chocolates — like these Valentine’s Day Chocolate Hearts!

Delicious chocolate is easily made in your own kitchen with simple ingredients — namely WFN’s cacao butter and coconut syrup.

I loved receiving boxes of chocolate-covered cherries from my dad when I was young. Their sweet, gooey goodness oozed out from the first bite. I hope these homemade chocolate hearts remind you of chocolate-covered cherries or cherry cordials — without the refined sugar that causes those treats to be so unhealthy.

Variations On Valentine’s Day Chocolate Hearts

You can add a bit of coconut milk to taste to produce more of a milk chocolate.

Full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, the flavor of tart cherries balances the sweetness of the chocolate nicely. Yet, using another chewy, dried fruit, such as cranberries or apricots, you can create your own “box of chocolates”. Whole freeze-dried fruit, like WFN’s freeze-dried raspberries, also work.
