Liver-Loving Herbs

Because of their detoxifying properties, herbs can help you show your liver some extra love. I’ve included these liver-loving herbs in the tea blend.

Burdock Root

Arctium Lappa is a well-known a detoxification herb for supporting your liver. It contains a large number of minerals to replenish what can be lost in the detox process. Clinical studies also suggest that it can regulate intestinal flora by helping to eliminate “bad” bacteria and encouraging the beneficial bacteria. This, of course, has many benefits to overall health, including boosting the immune system. ¹

Rosehips

These lend a light flavor to this tea blend with the added benefit of extra Vitamin C. This is crucial for overall health, and the body being able to detox. it means the liver doesn’t have to work as hard to get rid of toxins. ¹

Milk Thistle Seed

Silymarin marianum is another liver-loving herb. This tall plant with bright purple flowers and thistle-y leaves was used to prevent death from ingestion of poisonous mushrooms. Many European poison control centers still have milk thistle seed on hand for this reason.

Its unique ability to stimulate healing of damaged organs makes it idea for rejuvenating the liver as well as other organs.²

Holy Basil

Ocimum sanctum has some studies suggest it supports the liver by speeding up the elimination of certain medications. Holy basil may help support the adrenal glands, normal cortisol, and blood sugar levels. (note-if you are pregnant or nursing, leave this herb out of your blend). ²

Dandelion Root

Taraxacum officinale is the same weed you find all over your yard in the spring. This herb may also help to reduce liver damage from some medicines. It’s a known diuretic and can act as a mild laxative. Considered to be safe for pregnant women and during breastfeeding. . ²

Love Your Liver Tea Blend

Together, these herbs have a mild, very enjoyable flavor. You can drink up to 2 servings of this tea daily, but keep in mind the diuretic actions. If you are prone to retaining water, especially during your cycle, this may help reduce that as well.

Love Your Liver Tea is excellent liver support -- and it's delicious, too! Enjoy it hot or iced; you'll reap the potential benefits either way.
Ingredients
Instructions
  1. Add the dried herbs to a quart-size Mason jar and place a tight lid on.
  2. Gently shake to blend the herbs. Label and date with herbs used, and amounts.
  3. To use, place 2 Tablespoons in a quart-sized Mason jar.
  4. Cover with 1 quart boiling water.
  5. Add a lid while steeping for 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Strain herbs and add to compost.
  7. Sweeten to taste and enjoy!
Recipe Notes

You can enjoy this cold, pouring pre-sweetened tea over a glass of ice. You can also make a larger batch of this tea and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.
