How To Make An Aromatherapy Candle With Essential Oils | Get the same effect of essential oil diffusion without the diffuser! An aromatherapy candle with essential oils is a great way to scent your home naturally! | WildernessFamilyNaturals.com

Essential oils can play such a great role in your day, adding freshness to the air or giving off calming scents during a hectic time.

Yet distributing the scent of essential oils throughout your home can be frustrating.

A good diffuser is expensive, and let’s face it… my children are likely to break them. We have actually gone through 3 diffusers in the last year!

For that reason, we have chosen to make our own aromatherapy candles with essential oils to get the same effect of diffusion without the worry of the plug-in breaking or the diffuser being knocked over and our precious oils spilling out. (Because those things aren’t cheap!)

Here’s how to make an aromatherapy candle with essential oils! These make great gifts and are a fun weekend project for the whole family!

Suggested Essential Oil Combinations For Your Aromatherapy Candle:

  • 15 drops vanilla + 10 drops lavender
  • 15 drops sweet orange + 10 drops rosemary
  • 15 drops lemon + 10 drops lime
  • 20 drops eucalyptus + 5 drops lemon
  • 12 drops basil + 12 drops sweet orange
  • 25 drops of your favorite oil or combination of oils

Notes:

*You can buy ready-made wicks at a craft store

Plain cotton kitchen string soaked in 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup salt will do the trick in a pinch and save you a trip to the store. Place water and salt in a bowl or dish, add the string, soak overnight, and allow to dry completely before use.

If you feel the essential oil scent has faded or wish to make the scent stronger, allow the candle to melt, then extinguish the flame before adding more essential oils. Never add more essential oils while your candle is burning. Essential oils are highly volatile and can create a huge flame burst if added to a flame.

Servings1 candle
Ingredients
  • 1cup WFN Craft Oil
  • 1/4cup beeswax pastilles
  • 1length candle wicking
  • 25drops essential oils of choice
Instructions
  1. Measure out 1 cup of Wilderness Family Naturals Craft Oil every candle you wish to make.
  2. Over a double boiler, gently warm the oil until it is liquified, but not hot. A glass bowl fitted atop a pot of boiling water works as a double boiler. Alternatively, you can heat the coconut craft oil in a slow (200-degrees Fahrenheit) oven or even in bowl set in a Crock Pot on the lowest temperature setting.
  3. Add 1/4 cup of beeswax pastilles per 1 cup of melted craft oil and gently melt, stirring frequently. Please be careful at this stage; oil spilled on an open flame such as a gas stove can cause a fire.
  4. Add wicks* to the jars. Take part of the wick and wrap it around a pencil and place in the middle of the jar with the wick hanging down. This will keep the wick in place while the oil and wax completely cool.
  5. Pour the scented oil into the prepared jar. Allow the candle to cool completely, then trim the wick so that it is about 1-inch long.
  6. After the wax and oil are all melted together, allow the mixture to cool slightly. As it is cooling, add 25 drops of essential oils.
  7. To use your aromatherapy candle with essential oils, simply place it in an open area away from anything flammable. Burn it for at least half an hour each time.
