How To Make An Aromatherapy Candle With Essential Oils
Essential oils can play such a great role in your day, adding freshness to the air or giving off calming scents during a hectic time.
Yet distributing the scent of essential oils throughout your home can be frustrating.
A good diffuser is expensive, and let’s face it… my children are likely to break them. We have actually gone through 3 diffusers in the last year!
For that reason, we have chosen to make our own aromatherapy candles with essential oils to get the same effect of diffusion without the worry of the plug-in breaking or the diffuser being knocked over and our precious oils spilling out. (Because those things aren’t cheap!)
Here’s how to make an aromatherapy candle with essential oils! These make great gifts and are a fun weekend project for the whole family!
Suggested Essential Oil Combinations For Your Aromatherapy Candle:
- 15 drops vanilla + 10 drops lavender
- 15 drops sweet orange + 10 drops rosemary
- 15 drops lemon + 10 drops lime
- 20 drops eucalyptus + 5 drops lemon
- 12 drops basil + 12 drops sweet orange
- 25 drops of your favorite oil or combination of oils
*You can buy ready-made wicks at a craft store
Plain cotton kitchen string soaked in 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup salt will do the trick in a pinch and save you a trip to the store. Place water and salt in a bowl or dish, add the string, soak overnight, and allow to dry completely before use.
If you feel the essential oil scent has faded or wish to make the scent stronger, allow the candle to melt, then extinguish the flame before adding more essential oils. Never add more essential oils while your candle is burning. Essential oils are highly volatile and can create a huge flame burst if added to a flame.
